Second Temple
Discovered: Jerusalem

The southern steps to the temple from the 1st century have been excavated. A temple"warning" plaque was found near the "Court of the Gentiles" warning Gentiles, foreigners and the ritually impure not to enter on penalty of death. A street from the time of Herod can be seen along the western wall that has been buckled by the impact of stones that fell from the temple above at the time of Rome's destruction of the city in AD 70. (Temple stones still sit on the street below.)

"And Jesus went out from the temple, and was going on his way; and his disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple.
But he answered and said unto them, 'See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.'"

Notable Finds

Much of what is described in Bible text is lost to history, requiring readers to assume the historicity of the scriptures.

However, many of the places and events described in the Old and New Testaments are periodically corroborated by archeological finds.

Some finds simply help us to better understand things from the ancient world. However, others provide important evidence as to the truth of scripture regarding things about which there had previously been skepticism.
