A 1986 drought in Israel lowered the level of the Sea of Galilee. Two brothers walking along the shore of the Sea discovered the frame of a boat and called authorities. It was chemically treated to preserve it for display. It measures about 27 feet long by 71/2 feet wide and 4 feet deep. Scholars feel it would have accomodated a crew of 10-12 people.
Carbon dating suggests that it was in use between BC 120 and AD 40. It is the type of boat that fisherman at the time of Christ would have used. This is the only ancient boat ever discovered in the Sea of Galilee.
