Land of the Patriarchs

The word 'patriarch' is derived from Greek πατριάρχης (patriarchēs), meaning "chief or father of a family."
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are referred to as the three patriarchs of the people of Israel, and the period during which they lived is termed the Patriarchal Age. The word patriarch originally acquired its religious meaning in the Septuagint version of the Bible.
Abraham's family originated in southern mesopotamia at Ur and traveled to the northern regions at Haran. Abraham was later called by God to travel to Caanan where he was promised the land for his ancestors.

The Exodus

The Exodus tells a story of the enslavement of the Israelites and the Plagues of Egypt, after which they departed from Egypt, revelations at Mount Sinai, and wanderings in the wilderness up to the borders of Canaan. Its message is that the Israelites were delivered from slavery by Yahweh their god, and therefore belong to him by covenant.

The story of the Exodus is central in Judaism. It is recounted daily in Jewish prayers and celebrated in festivals such as Passover. Early Christians saw the Exodus as a typological prefiguration of resurrection and salvation by Jesus.
