Palestine at Time of Jesus
At the time of Jesus, Palestine was a Roman colony. Different territories were ruked by either a Roman-approved monarch, (e.g. Herod Antipas) of by a Roman governor, or "procurator", (e.g. Pontius Pilate).
Most of Jesus' ministry took place in Galilee, but he also ventured into Samaria. His preaching also took him as far north as Caesarea Philippi and the regions of Tyre and Sidon.
He preached at festivals and spent his final days in Judea.
The text of the bible is better appreciated when the geographical locations mentioned can also be placed by the reader. Several maps are presented here in order to acquaint users with the locations that they find referenced in the bible.
Click on any map image in the list to open a large, scrollable map on which you will find red, circular links leading to more information.
