When Paul tarried in Athens during his second missionary journey he was taken by the amount of idolatry evident in the city and preached against it. He was invited to share his ideas with the local thinkers at Mars Hill. Mars Hill was a stony outcropping near the Acropolis where the city council (Areopagus) would meet.
