Jacob Wrestles with God
On his way back to meet Esau, Jacob wrestled with a man through the night and received a new name, Israel (Genesis 32:24-28). The struggle symbolized Jacob's life and his relationship with God. Jacob left the encounter blessed but with a limp (Genesis 32:31).
Jacob's Ladder
While traveling to Haran, Jacob had a dream of a ladder reaching to heaven with angels ascending and descending, and God reaffirmed the covenant promises to him (Genesis 28:12-15). Jacob realized the place was holy and called it Bethel (Genesis 28:19). This event confirmed that God's covenant would continue through Jacob.
Jacob and Esau
Jacob and Esau were twin brothers, and Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for a meal (Genesis 25:29-34). Later, Jacob received his father's blessing instead of Esau (Genesis 27:28-29). This caused conflict between the brothers and changed the course of their family history.
