The Trinity
One of the problems encountered in efforts to understand the Trinity is that most of us move too quickly to analogies that only help explain aspects of the Trinity. Each of the three persons in the godhead possesses the same eternal and infinite divine nature; thus, they are the one, true God in essence or nature, not “three Gods.” Yet, they are truly distinct in their relations to each other.
The Trinity in the Old Testament?
The word Trinity is not used in the Bible, but the doctrine of a tri-une of God is clearly taught in the New Testament. The Old Testament does not openly teach such a doctrine, but the concept of the Trinity is pointed at in a variety of places. It might be said that the Old Testament lays a foundation for the later revelation concerning the Trinity.
