Following the Great Commission, the apostles of Jesus began to spread the word over ever-widening distances. The apostles are said to have dispersed from Jerusalem and founded the apostolic sees, such as those at Corinth, Philippi, Ephesus, and Rome.
The work of the apostles was expanded upon by devout believers, many of whom were students of the apostles themselves. These men are referred to as "Early Church Fathers," and are responsible for creation of the early church organization as well as the writing of the early documents upon which much of Christian doctrine would be based.
