BEROEA
Places & Geography - Inter-testament
Beroea was the name of several ancient places. The best-known was a city in Macedonia where Paul and Silas preached; its Jewish hearers were commended for examining the apostolic message against the Scriptures. Other places called Beroea appear in inter-testamental history.

“Berries” appears in the King James wording of James 3:12, but the Revised Version renders the expression simply “olives.” The reference concerns the impossibility of an olive tree producing a different kind of fruit.

BERYTUS

Berytus was an ancient Phoenician city on the Mediterranean coast, corresponding to modern Beirut. Though not named in the Old or New Testament, it was an important city in later Jewish and Roman history.

Besai was the ancestor of a group of Nethinim who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel after the exile.

To be surrounded or hemmed in. Scripture uses the term both for God's encompassing presence and for sins that press upon a person like a besieging army.

To be near or beside; the word may also describe amazement, a visionary state, or being outside one's usual condition. It can additionally mean something extra or beyond what has been mentioned.

An old expression meaning to be hard-pressed or distressed. Isaiah uses it of Judah under severe oppression.

To put, place, give, or provide. The word is used especially of God's abundant bestowal of grace and love, as well as of ordinary gifts and provisions.
