Hilkiah was the high priest in Josiah's reign who found the Book of the Law during repairs to the Temple.

Biography

During Josiah's restoration of the Temple, Hilkiah reported finding the Book of the Law. Shaphan read it before the king, whose response helped launch sweeping covenant reform. Hilkiah participated in consulting the prophetess Huldah and in removing idolatrous objects from the Temple.

Biblical Significance

Hilkiah stands at the center of Josiah's reform. The recovery of the Law under his priesthood prompted renewed attention to God's covenant and reshaped Judah's worship.
