Abihu

Abihu was a son of Aaron and one of Israel's first priests, who died with his brother Nadab after offering unauthorized fire before the Lord.
Biography
Abihu was among Aaron's sons consecrated to priestly service. He accompanied Moses, Aaron, Nadab, and Israel's elders partway up Sinai, where they experienced a remarkable vision associated with God's covenant presence. Leviticus 10 later records that Nadab and Abihu offered unauthorized fire that the Lord had not commanded, and fire came out from before the Lord and consumed them. Moses interpreted the event as demonstrating God's holiness among those who approach Him. Because the brothers died without sons, the priestly succession continued through Eleazar and Ithamar.
Biblical Significance
Abihu's death is one of Scripture's strongest warnings concerning the holiness of God and the seriousness of priestly worship. Sacred service was to be governed by God's command rather than human presumption.
