Widows
Widows were regarded as especially vulnerable and were to receive justice, kindness, and material support. Israel’s law provided access to gleanings and tithes, while the early church organized regular care for needy widows.
Biblical Usage
The law and later Christian teaching command tender regard for widows. The early church exhibited this concern through organized daily care and instructions concerning those entitled to support.
