Baanah
Baanah was the name of several men, including an officer who helped assassinate Ish-bosheth, the father of one of David’s mighty men, and a postexilic leader.
Definition
Baanah, meaning “son of affliction” or “son of oppression,” was the name of several men. One was a captain in Ish-bosheth’s army who, with his brother Rechab, assassinated Ish-bosheth. Another was the father of one of David’s mighty men, and another returned with Zerubbabel.
Biblical Usage
David punished Baanah and Rechab for Ish-bosheth’s murder, having their bodies publicly suspended at Hebron. Other bearers of the name are associated with David’s heroes and the postexilic community.

Son of affliction. (1.) One of the two sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, a captain in Saul’s army. He and his brother Rechab assassinated Ishbosheth (2 Sam. 4:2), and were on this account slain by David, and their mutilated bodies suspended over the pool at Hebron (5, 6, 12). (2.) The father of Heled, who was one of David’s thirty heroes (2 Sam. 23:29; 1 Chr. 11:30).
