“The Archite” was a designation of Hushai, David’s trusted friend and counselor. The title probably connected him with Archi, a place or clan associated with the frontiers of Ephraim.
The title is applied to Hushai in the narratives of David’s reign, including the rebellion of Absalom, and in the list of David’s officials.
The name is explained as possibly deriving from a place named Erech or from the related place or clan of Archi.
