"Cardiac Rupture"
Cardiac rupture most often follows as a complication of myocardial infarction. Damaged heart tissues can tear, destroying proper function. If the tear occurs in the outer heart muscle, this will lead to blood flowing out of the heart into the pericardium with sudden death.
Jesus was very likely a healthy, robust man prior to his passion, and would be thought to have little risk of myocardial infarction. However, the scourging he endured could have produced a cardiac contusion, leading to a weakening of the heart.
