"Divided Kingdom Map"
Following the death of King Solomon, the once united Kingdom of Israel became fragmented. Ten of the tribes in the north formed their own kingdom of "Israel," with Jeroboam as King, and with capitals at Schechem and then Samaria. The tribes of Benjamin and Judah constituted the southern Kingdom of Judah, maintaining the Davidic line with King Rehoboam, and with a capital at Jerusalem.
