"Bathsheba At Her Bath"

Rembrandt’s Bathsheba at Her Bath (1643)

Rembrandt's Bathsheba in the Metropolitan Museum is not as well known as his variation on the theme, Bathsheba holding King David's Letter, in the Louvre. The painting is dark, making the detail in the background less visible.

Bathsheba is being prepared for her erotic encounter with King David who can just be seen on the walls of his palace at upper left looking down at her.
