Prophet to: Israel (Northern Kingdom)Micaiah son of Imlah appears in the biblical account when Ahab of Israel asked Jehoshaphat of Judah to join him in a campaign against Ramoth-gilead. Ahab assembled about four hundred prophets, who unanimously predicted success. Jehoshaphat nevertheless asked whether there was another prophet of the Lord who could be consulted.
Ahab reluctantly named Micaiah, explaining that he hated him because Micaiah never prophesied good concerning him. A messenger urged Micaiah to agree with the favorable predictions of the other prophets, but Micaiah replied that he would speak only what the Lord told him.
Before the two kings, Micaiah ultimately declared that he had seen Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. He also described a heavenly vision explaining why Ahab's prophets were giving him false assurance. Micaiah warned that the campaign would end disastrously (1 Kings 22:17-23).
Ahab ordered Micaiah imprisoned and fed only bread and water until the king returned safely. Micaiah answered that if Ahab returned in peace, then the Lord had not spoken through him. Ahab went into battle in disguise but was mortally wounded by an apparently random arrow, confirming Micaiah's warning.
