And King Azariah of Judah went down to see King Joram the son of Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick. At about the same time, Jehu, a military commander, was on his way to Jezreel to kill and dethrone King Joram. Jehu and his company were sighted from afar. King Joram was informed of Jehu’s coming. King Joram sent a messenger to ask Jehu whether he was coming in peace, and the messenger did not return. He sent another, and then another – all of them did not return.
Eventually, he and King Ahaziah, his ally, mounted on their chariots to meet Jehu. When the two kings met Jehu and realized that it was a coup, King Joram and King Ahaziah fled for their lives. Archers shot King Joram and killed him. And on Jehu’s command, they pursued Ahaziah and archers shot him too in his chariot at a place called Gur, which was near Ibleam. But he did not die immediately, he continued his escape until they got to Megiddo and he died there. His servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem and buried him in his tomb with his fathers.
