People who already believe that life was created may be especially likely to interpret information, machines, control systems, and engineering-like organization as evidence of design.
The same evidence may look very different to someone who begins with the expectation that biological complexity arose entirely through natural processes.
A Visit With Jesus approaches this investigation from an openly Christian perspective. That makes it especially important that we distinguish what the evidence actually shows from what we already believe on theological grounds.
Prior beliefs can influence interpretation on every side of this discussion. The appropriate response is not to pretend that investigators have no assumptions, but to make those assumptions visible and examine competing explanations against the evidence.
AVWJ does not claim that engineering resemblance alone proves design. We should ask whether natural selection, self-organization, historical constraint, and convergence adequately explain the observations. We should also ask whether intelligent causation has positive explanatory power rather than invoking it simply where a natural explanation is incomplete.
Our Christian belief gives us reason to expect purpose in creation. The scientific question remains whether the features being examined provide independent evidence consistent with that expectation.
After the strongest natural explanations have been considered, does intelligent causation explain anything additional about the patterns we observe?
