Heartbreak will define usâ¦if we allow it. Heartbreak will come to stayâ¦if we let it set up camp.
David chose the better way in 1 Samuel 30:6. After his city was burned, its families carried into captivity, and his men threatened to stone him, David âstrengthened himself in the Lord.â
The decision that we make determines a tragic or triumphant outcome. Sometimes, the most powerful motivational speeches are the ones that we speak to ourselves in our own mirrors.
The Bible encourages us to examine ourselves (1 Corinthians 11:28) â to honestly consider our spiritual, emotional, physical, and relational health. David rose to his best when he should have been at his worst. We can do the same.
We can look in the mirror and say to ourselves: âSelf, we might be surrounded by bitterness, but bitterness will not get inside of us. We will stay hopeful. We may be pressed, but we are not crushed; we may be persecuted, but we are not abandoned; we may be struck down, but we are not destroyed (2 Corinthians 4:8-9). We will not give in to anger or anxiety. We will not whine; we will shine. As long as we have breath, we will praise the Lord.â
