Maacah
Historical Background
Joshua names the Maacathites and Geshurites among populations who continued to occupy their lands east or north of the Israelite territories. These notices reflect the complex geography of the northern borderlands.
The name Aram-Maacah in 1 Chronicles suggests a connection with the Aramean political world. It does not prove that Maacah was permanently controlled by Damascus or that its people all shared one identity.
The similarity between the kingdom name and the city name Abel Beth Maacah has led to several historical reconstructions, but there is no secure inscription identifying a king of Maacah.
