Historical Background

A Visit With Jesus

The ancient kingdom of Edom had been centered mainly east of the Arabah. During and after the Babylonian conquest of Judah in the sixth century BC, populations and political conditions changed across the south. Edomite names and traditions became prominent in territory formerly associated with southern Judah. Scholars debate the pace and causes of this process; it should not be pictured as a single documented migration or invasion.
