Sidon

Decline and End

A Visit With Jesus

Sidon lost its independence more than once. Assyria destroyed the city in 677 BC after rebellion, yet it later recovered. Persian rule brought a new period of royal prosperity, followed by another devastating revolt in the fourth century BC.

Sidon accepted Alexander the Great in 332 BC and entered the Hellenistic political world. The city continued under later kingdoms and Roman administration rather than disappearing.
