Psalm 31:11 describes the social isolation of the suffering psalmist. He has become an object of reproach, and even neighbors and acquaintances shrink away from him. The verse portrays the loneliness that accompanies rejection and danger.

Mark 14:50 records that when Jesus was arrested, all His disciples abandoned Him and fled. Mark does not cite Psalm 31:11, so the relationship is typological rather than direct fulfillment. Nevertheless, the experience of David as a rejected righteous sufferer provides a fitting pattern for Jesus, whose closest followers desert Him as He enters the final stage of His passion.
