Psalm 22:14-15 describes severe bodily distress: strength disappears, the heart melts, the mouth becomes dry, and the sufferer feels brought down to the dust of death. These are poetic descriptions of a person approaching death under extreme suffering.

Mark 15:34-37 records the final agony of Jesus on the cross, including His cry from Psalm 22:1 and His subsequent death. Mark does not individually identify verses 14-15 as fulfilled predictions, but his use of Psalm 22's opening words places the passion within the psalm's larger world of suffering. Christians therefore see the psalm's portrayal of physical exhaustion and nearness to death as powerfully corresponding to the crucifixion, while recognizing that the language is poetic rather than a medical description of crucifixion.
