Genesis 14 identifies Melchizedek as king of Salem and priest of God Most High. Hebrews 7:2 draws attention to the meaning of his name and title: "Melchizedek" is associated with "king of righteousness," while "king of Salem" is understood as "king of peace." These qualities make him an especially fitting biblical type of Christ.

The connection is typological rather than a claim that Genesis directly predicts Jesus under these titles. In the New Testament, Christ embodies both righteousness and peace in their fullest sense. His righteous character and saving work provide the basis for reconciliation with God, and His reign is associated with the peace that flows from that reconciliation. Hebrews uses Melchizedek to illuminate Christ's greater identity and priesthood: the ancient king-priest serves as a pattern, while Jesus is the enduring reality to which that pattern ultimately points.
