First Chronicles 17:11 repeats and develops the Davidic covenant: after David's death, God promises to raise up one of his own descendants and establish that descendant's kingdom. The immediate historical reference is to Solomon, David's son and successor, but the promise also establishes the continuing royal line through which Israel's messianic hope would develop.
Matthew 1:1 introduces Jesus as "the son of David," deliberately identifying Him with this covenant line, while Matthew 9:27 records two blind men addressing Him by the messianically significant title "Son of David." The promise in Chronicles therefore has both an immediate and an ultimate horizon. Solomon continues David's dynasty historically, but the New Testament presents Jesus as the climactic descendant of David in whom the royal promise reaches its enduring fulfillment. The Chronicler's emphasis upon David's "seed" or offspring thus becomes part of the biblical trajectory leading to Christ.
