Proverbs 1:23 personifies Wisdom calling the simple and resistant to repent at her reproof and promising, "I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you." Within Proverbs itself, Wisdom is presented poetically as a woman who calls, teaches, warns, and offers life to those willing to listen. The verse therefore should not be treated in its original literary setting as a straightforward prediction that the Messiah personally would send the Holy Spirit.

John 16:7 records Jesus telling His disciples that His departure is for their good because He will send the Advocate, or Helper, to them. Christian readers can see an important correspondence between Wisdom's promise to pour out her spirit and make her words known and Christ's promise to send the Holy Spirit, who will guide His disciples into truth. The New Testament also calls Christ "the power of God and the wisdom of God" in 1 Corinthians 1:24, giving Christian interpretation a legitimate basis for seeing the personified Wisdom of Proverbs as ultimately illuminating the person and ministry of Christ. The connection is therefore best described as typological and theological rather than as an explicit predictive prophecy.
