Explanation

Psalm 138:1-6 celebrates the LORD's exalted name, steadfast love, and universal glory. The psalm anticipates a time when the kings of the earth will praise the LORD because they have heard His words and recognize the greatness of His glory. The passage concerns God's supremacy rather than explicitly predicting a reaction to a particular descendant of David.

Matthew 2:2-6 describes the Magi seeking the newborn King of the Jews and Herod consulting the Scriptures concerning the Messiah's birthplace. The Magi are not explicitly identified as kings, and Matthew does not quote Psalm 138. The connection is therefore broad and thematic. Their journey nevertheless anticipates the larger biblical vision of rulers and nations being drawn to God's saving work through the Davidic Messiah, a theme expressed more directly in royal passages such as Psalm 72.
