Psalm 118:26 pronounces blessing upon the one who comes in the name of the LORD. In its liturgical setting, the words welcome the person entering for worship or procession under divine authority and blessing.

Matthew 21:9 records the crowds using these exact words as Jesus enters Jerusalem: "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" They also cry "Hosanna to the Son of David," giving the acclamation unmistakable messianic significance. The Gospel deliberately presents Jesus' triumphal entry through the language of Psalm 118. The Blessed One welcomed by Israel's worship becomes, in Christian understanding, the Davidic Messiah arriving publicly in Jerusalem.
