Psalm 110:1 places David's Lord at the right hand of the LORD, the position of supreme honor and delegated royal authority, while awaiting the final subjection of His enemies. The verse became one of the most frequently used Old Testament texts in the New Testament for explaining Christ's exaltation.

Mark 16:19 describes Jesus being taken into heaven and sitting at the right hand of God. Acts 2:34-35 explicitly quotes Psalm 110:1 in connection with Jesus' resurrection and exaltation, making the identification unmistakable. Christians therefore understand Christ's ascension not simply as departure from earth but as enthronement: the risen Son of David occupies the place of heavenly authority foretold in the psalm.
