Psalm 90:2 declares the eternal existence of God: before the mountains were born or the earth was formed, God is God "from everlasting to everlasting." The verse is a direct confession about the LORD and does not, in its immediate context, distinguish a future messianic figure.

John 1:1 declares that the Word already existed "in the beginning," was with God, and was God; John later identifies this Word as the One who became flesh in Jesus Christ. Christian theology therefore recognizes in Christ the eternal divine existence Psalm 90 attributes to God. The connection is theological rather than a prediction in the narrow sense: the New Testament's identification of the Son as eternal and divine means that the everlasting nature celebrated in Psalm 90 belongs also to Christ.
