Psalm 89:27 promises that God's Davidic king will be His firstborn and "the highest of the kings of the earth." The verse gives the covenant king a position of extraordinary supremacy among earthly rulers.

Luke 1:32-33 announces that Jesus will be great, will be called the Son of the Most High, will receive David's throne, and will reign forever. The language does not directly quote Psalm 89:27, but it identifies Jesus as the ultimate Davidic King whose status surpasses ordinary monarchs. The psalm's royal supremacy therefore finds its fullest Christian expression in Christ, whose kingdom is everlasting and whose authority ultimately extends over every earthly power.
