Luke 23:49 records Jesus' acquaintances and the women who followed Him standing at a distance while He is crucified. Luke does not quote Psalm 88:8, so the connection is typological rather than direct prediction. The scene nevertheless echoes the psalm's portrait of the isolated sufferer. Those who knew Jesus remain physically distant as He undergoes His final suffering, underscoring the loneliness of the passion.
