John 1:12-13 teaches that those who receive Christ and believe in His name are given the right to become children of God. John does not quote Psalm 72:17, so the connection is thematic rather than direct prophecy. Yet the enduring significance of the messianic King's name and the multiplication of a people blessed through Him fit the psalm's expansive vision. In Christ, the blessing associated with the Davidic King produces a new family of believers born of God.
