John 4 records Jesus traveling through Samaria and arriving at a town called Sychar near the field Jacob had given to his son Joseph.
Jesus rested beside Jacob's well while His disciples went into the town to buy food. There He asked a Samaritan woman for a drink and engaged her in an extended conversation concerning living water, her personal life, worship on Mount Gerizim and in Jerusalem, and the coming Messiah.
Jesus identified Himself to the woman as the one she was awaiting. She returned to the town and told others about Him.
Many Samaritans believed because of her testimony, and after hearing Jesus themselves they confessed Him as the Savior of the world.
