Tamar was David's daughter and Absalom's sister whose rape by her half-brother Amnon precipitated devastating conflict within David's household.
Biography
Second Samuel 13 describes Amnon becoming obsessed with Tamar and, following Jonadab's scheme, pretending illness so she would come prepare food for him privately. Despite Tamar's protests, Amnon raped her and then drove her away. She publicly mourned and lived desolate in Absalom's house. David was angry, while Absalom concealed his hatred for Amnon for two years before arranging Amnon's murder.
Biblical Significance
Tamar's suffering exposes the destructive consequences of sexual violence, abuse of royal privilege, and failed justice within David's family. The crime became a major catalyst for Absalom's vengeance and later rebellion.
