Tahpenes was the wife of an Egyptian pharaoh whose household sheltered the Edomite prince Hadad during Solomon's reign.
Biography
First Kings 11 says Hadad fled Edom for Egypt after Joab's campaign. Pharaoh received him favorably, provided him with a house, food, and land, and Hadad married the sister of Pharaoh's wife Tahpenes. Tahpenes weaned or raised their son Genubath within Pharaoh's household.
Biblical Significance
Tahpenes appears within the international background of Hadad's later opposition to Solomon and illustrates the close royal protection he received in Egypt.
