Shaphat was the father of the prophet Elisha and was associated with Abel-meholah.
Biography
First Kings 19:16 identifies Elisha son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah when God directs Elijah to appoint Elisha as his successor. Elijah later finds Elisha plowing and calls him. Scripture records no independent actions or speech by Shaphat.

Shaphat's significance is genealogical as the father of Elisha, one of Israel's most prominent prophets.
