Rezon son of Eliada was an adversary of Solomon who established himself as ruler in Damascus and opposed Israel.
Biography
First Kings 11 says Rezon fled from his master Hadadezer king of Zobah, gathered men around himself, and eventually reigned in Damascus. God raised him as an adversary against Solomon, and he opposed Israel during Solomon's later reign.
Biblical Significance
Rezon's rise forms part of the political trouble that accompanied Solomon's spiritual decline. His rule in Damascus anticipates the later importance of Aram as an opponent of Israel.
