Priest of the ancient Egyptian town of On (Genesis 41)
Potiphera was priest of On and father of Asenath, the wife Pharaoh gave to Joseph.
Biography
Genesis 41:45 says Pharaoh gave Joseph Asenath daughter of Potiphera priest of On as his wife. Genesis 46:20 repeats the relationship when naming Joseph's sons Manasseh and Ephraim. Scripture provides no further personal narrative about Potiphera.
Biblical Significance
Potiphera belongs to Joseph's Egyptian family context and is the maternal grandfather of Ephraim and Manasseh.
