Og

Biography

Numbers 21 and Deuteronomy recount Og coming out with his army to fight Israel at Edrei. The Lord told Moses not to fear him and delivered Og, his sons, and his people into Israel's hand. Israel took his territory in Bashan, which later formed part of the Transjordan inheritance. Deuteronomy 3 remembers Og as a remnant of the Rephaim and notes the extraordinary dimensions of his bed or sarcophagus.

Biblical Significance

Og's defeat, together with Sihon's, became a repeated biblical example of God's power to give Israel victory over formidable enemies and secure the land east of the Jordan.
