Bible Figure
Oded
father of Azariah the prophet (Books of Chronicles)
Oded was the father of the prophet Azariah who encouraged King Asa of Judah; Scripture gives no independent narrative about this Oded.
Biography
Second Chronicles 15 introduces Azariah son of Oded, upon whom the Spirit of God came before he addressed Asa and Judah. Some textual traditions and translations also associate Oded's name with the prophecy itself, but the narrative identifies Azariah as the speaker. No personal acts of Oded are recorded.
Biblical Significance
Oded's significance is primarily genealogical as the father of Azariah the prophet. He should be kept distinct from the prophet Oded who confronted Israel's army in 2 Chronicles 28.
