Possibly the son of Omri, Father of Jehoshaphat which is the father of Jehu
Nimshi was an ancestor of King Jehu of Israel, commonly identified as Jehu's grandfather.
Biography
Kings repeatedly calls Jehu 'son of Nimshi,' while 2 Kings 9:2 more fully identifies Jehu as the son of Jehoshaphat son of Nimshi. This indicates that the shorter expression uses 'son' in the broader ancestral sense. Scripture gives no independent narrative about Nimshi.
Biblical Significance
Nimshi's significance is genealogical in identifying Jehu's family. The fuller genealogy should be retained to avoid mistakenly making Nimshi Jehu's immediate father.
