Nebaioth was Ishmael's firstborn son and an ancestor of an Arabian tribal group.
Biography
Genesis 25 lists Nebaioth first among Ishmael's twelve sons and princes. Genesis 28 identifies Mahalath, whom Esau married, as Ishmael's daughter and Nebaioth's sister. Isaiah 60 later mentions the flocks of Kedar and rams of Nebaioth in a prophetic vision of nations bringing honor to Zion.
Biblical Significance
Nebaioth is important in Ishmael's genealogy and in the biblical background of Arabian peoples. The ancestral person should be distinguished from the later tribal designation.
