Meshech was a son of Japheth in the Table of Nations and later a name associated with a people or territory in prophetic literature.
Biography
Genesis 10 and 1 Chronicles 1 list Meshech among the sons of Japheth. Ezekiel frequently mentions Meshech together with Tubal as distant peoples involved in trade and later in prophetic judgment. The ancestral Meshech has no personal narrative in Scripture.
Biblical Significance
Meshech links the Table of Nations with later prophetic geography. The ancestral individual should be distinguished from the people or territory that bore his name.
