Joachim is the traditional name of Mary's father in later Christian literature, not a person named in the canonical New Testament.
Biography
The canonical Gospels do not name the parents of Mary, the mother of Jesus. The names Joachim and Anne arise from later Christian tradition, especially the second-century Protoevangelium of James. Because Joachim is not named in the canonical Bible, a normal biblical biography would misrepresent the evidence.
Biblical Significance
This record should be removed from a strictly canonical Bible-figures table or clearly labeled as later Christian tradition.
