Bible Figure
Jehonadab
character in 2 Kings, son of Rechab
Jehonadab son of Rechab was a supporter of Jehu who joined him during the destruction of Baal worship in Israel.
Biography
Second Kings 10 describes Jehu meeting Jehonadab son of Rechab and asking whether his heart was loyal. Jehonadab joined Jehu in his chariot and witnessed his zeal. He was present when Jehu gathered Baal worshipers under false pretenses and destroyed them. Jeremiah 35 later presents the Rechabites as faithfully observing the commands of their ancestor Jonadab.
Biblical Significance
Jehonadab links Jehu's anti-Baal campaign with the later Rechabite tradition of disciplined obedience. His association with Jehu should not imply approval of every aspect of Jehu's reign.
