Hymenaeus was an early Christian teacher disciplined by Paul for abandoning sound faith and later named for teaching that the resurrection had already occurred.

First Timothy 1 says Paul handed Hymenaeus and Alexander over for discipline so they might learn not to blaspheme. Second Timothy 2 associates Hymenaeus with Philetus and says their teaching that the resurrection had already happened was spreading and upsetting the faith of some.

Hymenaeus is a New Testament warning about doctrinal error within the church, particularly teaching that distorts the Christian hope of resurrection.
